  RACING NEWS
After some consultation it is anticipated that racing for the Bermagui Dirtsurfers Mountain Bike Club will resume after April, with exact dates yet to be advised, please keep an eye on the website as we near this point of the year.

  TRACK IS OPEN
For those avid riders of the Bermagui Dirtsurfers Mountain Bike Park, you will be pleased to know the park is now open for use, there are some parts that aren't as pretty as they once were.  But the good news is the track will be free of logging for the foreseeable future.

As with the 3 hour race, please stay tuned for the date, due to the amount of work put into restoring the track it is not expected that it will run in January.  It is anticipated that racing will resume in the first half of the new year, so please check the website regularly for the dates.

Again it is great to see people regularly turning up to test their skill and fitness level against each other, how else would you know how well your training is coming along unless there was a yard stick.  So please keep an eye on the website for upcoming events.  Primarily the club series, it should be noted that some dates may be subject to change, if there are changes the only medium to reflect those are the website.

Happy Riding and see you all at the next race, where I am assured the the timing computers will be back in operation.
  2011 Race Series Round 1

Well finally the Bermagui Dirtsurfers has racing underway again, the commencement of the 2011 season was opened with a spectacular and typical Bermagui Autumn day, and for the Easter weekend, where most people have indulging on their mind, it was great to see people having at go on the day.

We even saw caring parents showing the kids how to safely fall so as to not injure themselves, I promised these photos would make the site, although the final jumble of arms and legs was left out intentionally.

Well back to the racing, yet again we are seeing people push themselves to some magnificent times, and especially encouraging is the younger riders showing some real potential.  An outstanding example of this is Charlie Todd, Charlie is 9 years old and chose to race in the Open Men's.  Charlie came 13th, which is incredible considering he was competing against grown men.  Well done Charlie, keep up the training and we have no doubt you will start making some of us very nervous very soon.

Charlie is all grins as he finishes his three laps.

The overall winner of round one was Luke Dale, it was commented by our intrepid photographer that Luke's climbing was almost inhuman.  Luke's first lap was indicative of how hard he threw himself into this race, it was a blistering 00:17:57, who knows maybe Luke can knock Andrew Blair's 00:16:31 record off one day, even the wildlife liked him, after a leech had a nice large meal of his sugar filled blood.

Luke climbs our most painful hill like a man possessed
Then the winner of the open women's category Jacqui Kennett, well consistency appears to be her middle name.  She commented that she is more used to endurance events, and a 00:23:14 for the first lap and a 00:23:14 for the last lap speaks for itself.  Once she completed the race she rolls out for another lap to cover the time until presentation.  Most mere mortals have to work quite hard to make a couple of laps of the Bermagui Dirtsurfers Track, Jacqui made it look easy.

Jacqui Kennett after her after race lap ..... no sweat.
Summing up it was a great day to be on the track and a great day to be racing, thanks to all the riders that took part, all of us from Bermagui Dirtsurfers sincerely hope you had a great time and are looking forward to seeing more familiar faces at future races in 2011.

  BERMAGUI DIRTSURFERS TWILIGHT RACE 2011

29 January 2011, saw the Bermagui Dirtsurfers Race season start with a bang, with better than expected numbers the Bermagui Dirtsurfers 3hr Twilight Race was a great comeback event for the club.  Of particular note we were privileged to have Brendan Johnston enter in the race, Brendan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in August 2009 interrupting a promising mountain bike career, an example of his steadfast courage and commitment to the sport, Brendan raced just 16 Days after his initial surgery to remove the cancer at the World MTB Championships in Canberra.   It is great to see Brendan back on track and putting in some great competition at events again.  Brendan came second in the open men's solo category at the Twilight race, we can only hope Brendan keeps racing at Bermagui to show us some crazy lap times of the track, so a great big well done from all of us at Bermagui Dirtsurfers Mountain Bike Club.

Not to be overshadowed, the event winner Andrew Blair set a new course lap record at 00:16:31, and beat last years total number of laps for the three hour event at 11 laps.  All this was on a slightly longer track as well, this was a stunning result and was amazing for the time keepers as those lap times remained consistent throughout the race.   For those that don't know Andrew placed third last year in the Australian Mountain Bike Series, and competed in the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships - 2010 in Canada.  Congratulations to Andrew on winning the event and providing a wonderful Mountain Bike spectacle.

The girls also put on a great show, with Heather Logie putting in an amazing nine lap race to take out first place in the women's open solo category.  Heather has also been putting in the hard yards in 2010, with a win in Tasmania's prestigious Wildside stage race. Bermagui Dirtsurfers wish Heather luck with her future events and hope to see her again down the coast for the 2012 Twilight race.

A full wrap of the event results are attached, apologies in advance for names misspelt, trying to translate some of the hieroglyphics on the entry forms was a challenge in itself! To all who competed we hope you had a great time, if you wish to join in our four race 2011 series watch the website for upcoming events, dates and flyers will be uploaded as events are confirmed.  Enjoy the track, ride safely and be considerate of other track users.
